A SINGER, cum amateur boxer, cum angler has decided to turn his pass-time into his latest business venture by launching an online fishing channel.

Local businessman Rae Borras started out as a quantity surveyor in the 1970s, before starting his own construction business in a small room at his home in 1980.

However, the one-time singer and amateur boxer has since turned his hand to TV presenting.

Now Rae, who is chairman of the Borras Group Holdings Limited in St Albans, has launched his latest venture, Online Fishing TV.

Rae says his latest business has been a labour of love and was borne of the demand of all anglers, regardless of their fishing preferences, for a television station dedicated to their own sport.

With an estimated 2 million coarse, sea and game anglers countrywide, Rae says there is a huge demand for fishing programmes.

He said: “Fishing is still Britain’s biggest participation sport and yet there is a serious lack of television programmes representing it.

“One or two new shows are appearing now, but we are mostly watching repeats of the repeats.

“I had the time and the resources to create something new.”

The channel currently offers more than 80 programmes about every aspect of fishing including carp, coarse, match, sea and game fishing.

Indeed Rae and his team are working closely with the Environment Agency, the recently formed Angling Unity and anglers across the country to promote the popular pass-time.

He added: “It doesn’t matter whether you are an intensely competitive match angler, a secretive specimen hunter or someone that just enjoys being out there.

“This will become an online ‘living library’ for all anglers, by offering entertainment, new tactics, best baits and hints and tips from Britain’s top anglers.“
