Three young Attleborough pike anglers hit the jackpot on the Besthorpe Commercial Fishery last week, with each catching a 20lb-plus predator.
Sean Woodrow heaved out a specimen of 24lb 10oz on his debut, Andy Day bagged one of 24lb 8oz and Richard Wingfield had the best of the day, a 25lb 9oz beauty. All the fish fell to sea baits.
On the big carp scene Lowestoft's Jim Shelley continued his phenomenal run of success on the Waveney Valley Lakes near Wortwell. In bitter conditions last week the Suffolk hot rod bagged seven carp while fishing from the point of G Lake, the heaviest a 31lb common. This week's session produced another seven muscle-packed beauties, the best of these a 26lb mirror.
At Swangey Lakes the top fish was a 20lb 14oz mirror carp for Rod Carter of Ellingham while match catchers of silver fish on this venue were headed by mostly bream up to 35lb.
# Due to the popularity of previous Catch 22 Carp Challenge events organisers are holding two more this year and have extended them to 48 hours instead of 24.
One is being held at the Catch 22 Fishing Centre, in Lyng Easthaugh, in May (15-17) and the other in October (16-18). The May event is fully subscribed but there are a few spaces available in October.
There is £800 up for grabs for the winners and second, third and fourth places will win tackle and bait. There is a limit of 12 teams per event and the entry fee is £150. Closing date is April 30. For more information contact 01603 872948 or email: info@catch22fishing.co.uk
